Tom and Gilly pack for a night’s stay at their Grandma’s, but Nobody keeps unpacking their things because he doesn’t want them to go. The children invite the ghost to come with them, but he is too worried that another ghost will take over the house while he is gone. Learning that tomorrow is Nobody’s one-hundred-and-fortieth ‘birthday’ of becoming a ghost, Tom and Gilly decide to throw him a party when they return; having explained what a party is, they also promise to get their mother to make him a cake. Downstairs, Peter is busy talking to an insurance salesman, showing him the antiques he wants to cover, and the safe and security system that protects all his valuables. Jane returns from her new job as a nurse, disappointing Peter with the news that she can’t visit his mother due to a flu outbreak that has delayed all the housework she still has to do. After Peter, Tom, Gilly and Wally the dog have left in the car, Jane starts work on the cake for her children, receiving some ‘help’ from an exited Nobody in the process. That night, after Jane has gone to bed, two burglars break into ‘Cornerstones’; one of the men is the insurance salesman, and his mate uses the information unwittingly provided by Peter to deal with the alarm and find the safe. Luckily the break-in has been seen by Nobody, who resolves to scare the intruders away…
